Why is my senior cat down, matted, and sneezing after we moved?

Fuzzybugs could be sneezing as a result of airborne irritants, allergies, asthma or the start of an upper respiratory infection. If possible, try removing Fuzzybugs from the basement to another room in the house to monitor if his sneezing continues or resolves. If it continues, he may need to take a trip to the vet, as he may need antibiotics if an infection is present or antihistamines if allergies are suspected. If the sneezing resolves, you can try putting him in the basement again with an air filtration device to try to remove extra airborne allergens. I hope that all goes well!

If there are any other cats in the house, I recommend temporarily isolating them from your sneezy cat until his signs resolve. Minimizing environmental stress is also recommended for his recovery. He may have an upper respiratory infection going on, or some other nasal/respiratory irritation, and due to his age and since steroids can affect the immune system, it would be best to bring him to your vet for an exam. They may need to put him on a course of antibiotics or other treatments to help him feel a bit better. Continuing to remove any debris that builds up and trying to entice him to eat as much as possible by warming up his food or adding in a little low-sodium chicken broth if he can handle it may help until you can get to your vet, but care ASAP is best.

It could be just mild nasal irritation. It coukd also be due to environmental factors like dust. Rarely we can see certain slow rising disease of cats such as nasal tumors. However we usually see discharge like mucus or blood. If you ever see a discharge, your cats attitude changes or the sneezing increases in its frequency I would consider having your veterinarian do an exam.

Poor Garfield. At age 17 that is an awful lot going on and I'd be worried there is an underlying issue such as kidney or organ failure, disease, etc. Since he's so old and is having so many symptoms, it's best to bring him to your vet ASAP. They will likely want to run a few tests such as bloodwork or an X-ray to check his organ function, etc. If you can, bringing in urine or stool samples can also help with any testing and help streamline the process. Until you can get the vet, keeping him as comfortable as possible and keeping his eyes and nose clear with a clean washcloth can help. Some cats also do better eating if they can smell the food, so warming up his food or adding some boiled chicken that is smelly may encourage him to eat a little until you can be seen.

He could have multiple things going on here. Itching is a sign of allergies, so I would first check for fleas (they leave behind tint black pepper looking specks on the skin). The purple bumps may be an inflammatory reaction or actual masses, so have these tested through your vet. The wheezing is the most concerning symptom that he has, as this can be early signs of asthma, bronchitis, a mass (an enlarged thyroid) pressing on his airway, or an upper respiratory infection. I would encourage you to schedule an earlier appt for Tobby to address the wheezing as soon as possible. Cats with airway issues are consider unstable and should seek medical attention right away because the lungs are their stress organ, so that means that if they are not feeling well then the lungs can get worse very quickly.
