Why is my old cat licking genitals, peeing spots, and sensitive?

I suggest you have him to your vet for an exam and urine test. It is not normal for male cats to lick their privates incessantly. Male cats often form crystals in their urine and they can be irritating to the urethra as they pass through which may be causing the licking. As long as he is passing some urine it is not an emergency but you should try to get him examined in the next day or so.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! With your description, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and having his urine tested. He may have crystals in his urine with a secondary urinary tract infection. If he does have crystals in his urine, there is a chance he already has stones in his bladder or will develop bladder stones down the road in the near future. With crystals and stones, male cats run the risk of getting a urinary obstruction, which can be life threatening if not treated as it will cause backup of the urine into the kidneys and lead to kidney failure and other systemic abnormalities secondary to the obstruction. I would have this checked sooner rather than later because if you wait until he is obstructed, it can easily cost up to $3000 for treatment. If you take him now, it is the exam fee, urine test and treatments, which come nowhere near $3000. I hope this helps guide you int he right direction! I am sorry to hear about Tiger. A photo of the area may help us to better determine what could be going on with him. There are several different possibilities, including a prolapse urethra (especially if the tip of the penis looks round or enlarged), cystitis, stones in the bladder or urethra, a mass/tumor in the bladder, or a bad bladder infection. I would recommend getting him in to see a vet today. If you think he is unable to urinate or he seems lethargic/is vomiting then it would be considered an emergency as he could have a urethral obstruction/blockage and this can be deadly if untreated. The vet will examine him and may test his urine and recommend an x-ray to determine the source of his problem.

These conditions are typically very painful and uncomfortable as there is a large amount of inflammation and pressure from being unable to void the bladder. He should be seen by a vet as soon as possible as this condition can quickly turn into a medical emergency as the urine backs up into the kidneys and causes a build up of toxins. If Barbie is uncomfortable or experiencing pain from the infection, the twitching could be secondary to the infection. I would recommend that Barbie be examined by a veterinarian and have her urine tested to see if there is a urinary tract infection going on so that the most appropriate treatment can be recommended. Cats can have inappropriate urination for a number of reasons. Urinary infections, bladder inflammation, urinary stones, urinary tumors, as well as behavioral problems. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure there is not a medical problem. I'm sorry to hear this! I know how frustrating behavioral issues can be! This sounds like Tatty is behaving this way out of stress. Stress can result from a underlying medical issue among other things. Inappropriate elimination (peeing or pooping outside the litter box) in cats can be frustrating and difficult to treat. The first step you should take is scheduling an appointment for your cat to see a veterinarian. A lot of times a cat will start going outside of the litter box due to health problems like urinating tract infections, pain, urinary tract inflammation and digestive problems. Once you have established that there aren't any medical reasons for inappropriate elimination the following may be helpful: 1. Cats will urinate or defecate outside of the litter box for stress related reasons. Therefore it is best to keep the litter boxes in several different, quiet areas of the household. This may also help reduce Tatty's stress level. 2. A pheromone diffuser like Feliway can be quite helpful. This can be very useful when a cat is showing agression like Tatty. 3. Ensure you have at least one litter box in the household per cat plus one. For example, if you have 3 cats, then 4 litter boxes are recommended. 4. Feeding an all canned food diet can help if there is inflammation in the bladder. There are also prescription diets available to help with bladder inflammation or digestive issues. Your veterinarian can help you choose the best one for your cat. 5. The litter boxes should be cleaned once to twice daily and completely emptied and washed weekly. Most cats prefer litter to be the clumping type that is kept a few inches deep. Certain litter types like Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter may be helpful. 6. If you are still having problems after taking the above steps you may want to talk to your veterinarian about behavioral medication.
