Why does my newborn kitten still suckle and seem hungry after feeding?

This is not likely a sign that the cat needs more nutrition but is probably simply a preference. Some kittens want to suckle longer than others for comfort, and some adult cats will continue to try to suckle themselves or other things like blankets. I would think that the momma would put a stop to this pretty quickly, but if you see the cat trying to suckle I would try to intervene so that things between them don’t get out of hand.

I recommend using a bottle with a small nipple - you can find kits for newborns at most pet supply stores. A commercial milk replacer like KMR is best, and you should feed the kitten every 2-3 hours. The kitten should be taking about 25 ml of milk per day and you should offer the bottle with the kitten laying on its stomach, not held on its back like a baby. You will also need to stimulate the kitten to urinate and defecate after eating by rubbing a warm washcloth on the genital and anal openings - neonatal kittens cannot urinate or defecate on their own. If the kitten is not interested in the bottle you may need to tube feed and should see your veterinarian for a demonstration.

Hello, in general kittens this young can be fed whenever they feel hungry. During this time they are growing quite quickly and nurse every 2-3 hours. He may be feeling hungry often because he isn't consuming as much food during his feeding times. If he is on formula ensure you are feeding the recommended amounts, but he can also have more formula if he wants it. Additionally, you may start introducing a little wet food now to see if this helps him feel more full. Alternatively, he may not be meowing because he is hungry, but rather because he wants attention. You can try playing with him or offering toys to see if this calms his meowing. Kittens need to eat frequently! What goes in must come out, and on a liquid diet it will be mostly urine. You need to rub and rub and rub the anus with a warm wet washcloth to stimulate defecation. This could be a case of fading kitten syndrome which unfortunately has a poor prognosis. You can try Nutrical on her gums as well as a dab of Karo syrup to see if increasing her blood sugar helps. Unless she starts having a better suckle you will have to keep going with the dropper for feedings.

I am not sure if you are referring to vomiting, regurgitation or abdominal discomfort after eating? Three week old kittens are definitely at risk of intestinal parasites and should receive kitten deworming dosed accurately to their weight

Hello. It is difficult to regulate how much a growing young kitten will eat, generally we recommend just to free feed. Perhaps once the wormer has kicked in, he will do better. It is natural for kittens to catch *& eat bugs as this is part of their instinct to hunt.
