My newborn kitten has a hard lump on its back. Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 days old

My cat had kittens 4 days ago. They are all healthy and mums brilliant with them. I noticed yesterday the smallest one had a hard lump on her back. It doesn’t seem to hurt when I was touching it, she’s still drinking from mum and doing the toilet.

Mommy may have been a little rough cleaning the baby, or may have held it a little to hard with her teeth moving it. If the lump does not go away or if the kitten fails to thrive you should have it examined by a vet. Observe it for a few weeks.
