My new cat won't eat, drink, or go in carrier. How can I help?

First of all, try to leave him alone as much as possible so that he can acclimate to his new environment. Also assure that his food and water are in slightly quieter and more secluded areas of your house so that he has some privacy while eating or drinking. You can also try using calming pheromone collars or diffusers, such as Feliway. He may be tempted to eat with canned cat food, small portions of tuna, or meat-based baby foods. Warming up these foods slightly will make their odor stronger, which is often enticing to cats. However, if Ozzie still won't eat or drink by tomorrow, it may be worth a trip to the vet to assure that there aren't any other medical conditions at play. I would encourage her to drink and you may get more than 1 litter box to encourage her to use it. It may take your new kitten time to get used to her new surroundings. Try keeping her in a smaller area, like a bathroom, with her littler box and food/water. Being in closer proximity to them may encourage her to eat and use the box. You may also want to try offering her canned kitten food, as opposed to kibble. This may encourage her to eat more. When she does eventually defecate, if it is outside of the box, place the stool inside the box to help her learn where to go. Provide her several litterboxes. You may need to pick her up and place her in the litterbox. If you have a porch area, try placing a box there. As far as feeding, offer her a variety of wet and dry foods. If she fails to eat within 48 hours, you should take her back to your veterinarian. Ask about an appetite stimulant.

They can also provide supportive medications to improve her hydration, appetite, and comfort. If the vet confirms she is in good physical health, you can try using Feliway, a feline pheromone spray designed to reduce stress in cats. Also ensure she has easy access to food and water in the place where she is hiding. You can gradually try interacting with her more and more, through offering treats, and speaking to her softly and gently. Poor kitty! If she is vomiting and not eating or drinking, this is a serious problem - even if the problem began because of stress, she will quickly become dehydrated if this continues. I would recommend having her examined by a vet as soon as you can - he/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to find out what's wrong and get her started on IV fluids and other supportive care if needed.
