Is it safe to spray diluted Neem oil on plants when my cat is around?

Hello. Most recipes I have seen recommend using 5 drops of peppermint oil to 16 oz water & a dash of soap, so check to make sure 10 drops will not be too strong for you. Just fill the bottle 1/2 way, add the 10 drops & see how it smells. If too strong, just fill the bottle the rest of the way with water. I do not think this will be a problem to any of your cats as long as the spray has a chance to dry before letting your cats back into the room. You can use the stronger dilution outdoors with no issues, but indoors, check to see how your cats react in just one area after the spray has dried. No, I would not do this. There are concerns that neem leaves and the oil they contain can be toxic for cats, and it will not cure Misty's fungal infection. Cats often lick off any topical application, so in order to treat fungal infections in cats, oral medications are needed. You should take Misty into the vet to get the correct oral medications to treat her fungal infection.

I worry about this product, because it contains a pesticide that can be toxic if used in too high of a concentration. However, the way this is meant to be used is more like a bathing product. It should be diluted per the manufacturer's directions and then the cats should be bathed per the directions. After the bath, the solution should be thoroughly rinsed and is not meant to stay on the skin, so there should be no concern of them licking it. I prefer other products for controlling fleas though, because this one would have to be repeated. Other products like spot-ons (i.e. Frontline, Revolution) or tablets (i.e. capstar) will control the fleas for an entire month. Treating for fleas is not just restricted to the host, because fleas can reproduce and nest in the environment and continually cause an issue. Clove and peppermint only annoy your cats' and dogs' sence of smell. Since they have a much more keen sense of smell these aromas are overpowering to them. Fleas do not get repelled by peppermint and clove. I would not use it near my pets. The best way to get rid of fleas is as follows: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Flea products: Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well) Indorex: The active ingredients of the product are Permethrin, Pyripoxyfen and Piperonyl Butoxide. Between them, these three substances kill adult fleas and stop the development of eggs and larvae of fleas and house dust mites. However, as permethrin is toxic to cats, I would not use it regularly and certainly would not leave the cats in the house while spraying it.

I'm not sure that you're going to be able to find the information that you are looking for, because we're not quite sure what percentage of essential oils are safe for cats. Peppermint and clove oils are both potentially toxic for cats without an established "safe" amount. I can't recommend applying essential oils directly to the fur/skin of a cat because of the potential safety concerns. I would be cautious using this around your cat. Since the shampoo isn't something that will remain on your hair since you rinse it out, the chance of exposure is low, but cats are particularly sensitive to peppermint oil. Even breathing the aroma of peppermint oil can cause shortness of breath and increased heart rate. Again, since you're rinsing it out and it's a very small amount in the shampoo, I feel the chance of there being a problem is small, but I would be careful, maybe changing the time your wash your hair to earlier in the day so the scent will have dissipated by bedtime. Rosemary can also be toxic to cats though I haven't been able to find any further information about how toxic it may be.

I think this would be dilute enough that there wouldn’t be much concern. Cats with respiratory disease can be sensitive to oils ina diffuser, and both dogs and cats are very sensitive to topical essential oils.
