Why does my mother cat have a bump on her stomach that won't go away?

This could be a swollen mammary gland that got very inflamed, it's quite common in lactating cats, you should get it checked by your vet as she may need to take anti inflammatories if it is bothering her.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Hello, it looks like the cat may be currently nursing. Other causes for enlarged mammary glands include benign mammary hyperplasia. It she is not nursing, then you can expect the mammary glands to decrease in size over the next 3-5 days. If this does not occur, then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps

Thank you for submitting your question regarding XiaoMi. It appears that she has a skin infection on her abdomen. Mammary tumors grow out of the mammary gland under the skin. The exception is if the tumor becomes large enough, the overlying skin can ulcerate and rupture. This does not appear to be the case though from the attached pictures. I do think that she should see her veterinarian. She will likely need antibiotics and a medication to control any itching. She will likely have to wear an E-collar to prevent self trauma as well. If the cause of the infection (if that is what it is) can be determined, this can help to prevent future recurrences. Allergies are common ok the abdomen. I hope this information helps!

It could be that Beans has an umbilical hernia and that's why the lump goes back in when you push on it. Umbilical hernias typically need to be repaired surgically, which can be done when Beans is neutered. As for his mum Jaffacake, this lump could unfortunately be a mammary tumor which can happen in intact females. In cats, there's a 90% chance a mammary tumor is malignant, so it's important to have any lump examined promptly by a vet.
