My mini pig has diarrhea after eating fruit. Did Pepto make it worse?

I'm sorry Ginger isn't feeling well. There are many causes for diarrhea/loss of appetite in guinea pigs. Most of these are easily treated and include intestinal parasites, bacterial infections, or improper diet. If Ginger has a pelleted diet, she should also have access to hay and leafy vegetables. Unfortunately, the only way to diagnose Ginger is with a veterinary exam, which would potentially include a fecal exam, blood work, and some x-rays. I hope this helps!

Since she is still eating well and acting well, try limiting her diet to hay only for 1-2 days, to see if that will firm the stool. Vegetables and fruit can be too rich for the diet and lead to soft stool also. If the clinical signs does not improve, seek an appointment with a veterinarian with experience in companion exotic mammals.

I'm sorry to hear that Oliver is having diarrhea. One of the potential side effects of Pepto bismol is that it can cause a very dark discoloration of the stool. So, that may be the reason for the color change that you have noticed. If Oliver continues to eat and feel well, then you may be able to continue with the bland diet at home. If he does well with a bland diet and his diarrhea resolves, then you can slowly transition back to his normal diet over a few days. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. Bacon should be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury. Once a diagnosis is made, the appropriate treatment can be administered. Do not wait to see if he improves. Dehydration is a very real concern that can complicate any underlying condition.

Hello. You should have Tucker seen by a veterinarian. Vomiting this long could be an indication that he has developed gastric ulcers, is constipated, or has developed gastric stasis, all of which require more than what you can do casually at home. Hello! Thank you for posting your question! If you haven't tried pepto bismol, you can give that a try and give Rosie 2tsp every 8hrs. I would also begin a bland diet such as boiled chicken breast and rice until the diarrhea resolves. You can also try and add a probiotic such as Fortiflora. I would not give the pepto bismol for more than 24 hours. If the diarrhea is worsening and not resolving, i would bring a stool sample to your vet to have it tested. There are other medications that your vet will habe to help resolve the diarrhea. If Rosie ate something she normally doesn't eat, this could have caused a dietary indiscretion.
