My male kitten had one-time blood on his private part. Is it serious?

I would be concerned this may be a sign of inflammation and part of the FLUTD (feline lower urinary tract disease complex). It is important to act quickly here as some cats can suffer extremely painful and severe blockages if untreated. Pain relief, antiinflammatories and sometimes catheters re required to relieve if very severe and he may need antibiotics if there is any evidence of infection. Dietary management long term can help to prevent recurrence depending on his test results

The glands are situated inside the rectum and they have fluid that is released when they have a bowel movement or when they are scared. If there was bright red blood I would be concerned they are infected. If it was dark brown, it is normal contents. I hope this helps. Kisses to Suga!

I would be very suspicious that he had a urinary blockage, was able to pass the obstructing material and that's when he got all wet and litter covered and may have passed blood. It would be the best plan if action to take him to your veterinarian for an exam and a urinalysis. Explain exactly what is going on. He may have an infection, crystalsi in his urine or bladder stones. If he was obstructed, he could do it again very soon and this can be a life threatening emergency.

If he is eating, acting normal, not vomiting and does not have more bleeding, then he can be seen Monday. Otherwise, he will need to see an emergency veterinarian this weekend. The bleeding can be the result of intestinal parasites, an anal gland problem, a wound near his anus or having passed a firm dry bowel movement. Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens

If he was straining in any way it can rupture a blood vessel and cause some blood. It also can be a sign of an infection or him having trouble with the diet and he may need a new food. Since he is other wise healthy and acting normal, you can watch him for any vomiting or diarrhea. If the blood continued with diarrhea, then he needs to seen to see what is gong on.
