Why is my male cat aggressive to female cat after she gave birth?

Hello. Unfortunately, this is not a friendly family group. Cats do not often form strong bonds with their offspring & she may be feeling a little threatened by having them around as they get older. It may be a good idea to either find homes for the kittens, or consider spaying the mother cat. This may alleviate some of her anxiety. Hopefully, things will even out for her soon. Some cats can go back into heat very quickly after giving birth, and that will cause a male cat to be attracted to her. Tangerine may also be smelling the scent of the kittens, which would make him interested in what is producing this new smell. I would keep the mother cat completely separated from Tangerine and any other cats while nursing her kittens so she can be a stress free as possible. I hope this helps!

If the two females cats are not spayed I suggest you do that as soon as possible. That could sure be the reason for the tension. Not only that but if the females are not spayed and are going outside they will get pregnant guaranteed as soon as they go into heat. Usually the first heat cycle is around 6-7 months (so now). I also suggest you try some Feliway products in your home. These are basically "happy cat pheromones" that help to de-stress and relax cats. It works very well. Here is a link to their website. This is the time of year when cats start to come into heat again, and if she isn't spayed and there is an intact male nearby, she may be going into heat and trying to push away her previous litter in order to make room for a new one. If you do not wish to have more kittens, I highly recommend having Chloe (and the kittens) spayed if the male cannot be. 5 cats (plus the others you mentioned) is also a lot of cats, and the sheer number may be very stressful for her. Finding homes for the kittens, or making sure everyone has access to their own food, water, bedding, litter, etc can help decrease tension.

Aggression can often be a response to pain. I recommend getting her checked by your vet as soon as possible, especially since she just finished a heat cycle. She could have an infection that is making her uncomfortable and in turn making her lash out against the kitten. You vet may run some labwork, do a physical exam, and based on these results, will be better able to tell you what is going on with your cat and how to treat her from there.

Hello, I would agree that her aggression means she probably does not like him or is coming out of heat and not interested in his advances. Keeping them separated when they cannot be monitored may be best to keep them from fighting. I hope these two cats are not related. Breeding related cats is NOT recommended. It sounds like he is trying to get her pregnant again and she doesn't want him. You cannot force cats to get along. They may never go back to the way they were. It is best to spay Mella so that he stops trying to breed with her.
