Lost indoor cat in heat. How far can she go? How do I find her?

6 days is a long time, although it's pretty impossible to predict how long she might be gone for. Usually when they're in heat they come and go, returning home to eat. Hopefully she has come back home by now, but if not I would put signs up in your neighborhood.

I am so sorry Tux ran away! I have heard stories of owners who have been reunited with their missing pets months and even years after the pet has gone missing, so it's certainly possible that you can find him. Given that he's not neutered, I wouldn't be surprised if he's travelled far looking for females with which to mate. Intact males will roam far and wide to find females, so I would widen your search area for him. I will be hoping you will find it!

Hi and thanks for posting- I am sorry to hear Gumble has escaped! Cats are very intelligent and also have very good navigational skills, so she may be able to find her way home, but it is hard to say for sure. If she is micro-chipped, anyone with a microchip scanner (vet's office, shelter, rescue organization, or police) will scan her for her chip number which can help bring her back home. I hope Gumble comes home soon!

I am sorry this happened to you. Most cats that are outside tend to roam about a 2 mile radius of their house to get back to their territory. So the chances of her getting back home at that distance is decreased. You have done all you can. All you can do is wait and see if someone spots her and keep checking the shelters. Make sure you actually go to the shelters as they are busy and have lots of volunteers that make mistakes on the phone about descriptions and what has been coming in.

Hopefully she will come back once she gets hungry. She has a good chance of being impregnated though. The heat cycle in cats lasts for about 1-3 weeks on average. Best of luck moving forward with Dory. Take care.

She is probably just wandering around. However there are dogs out there, cars and possibly wild animals that can harm her. keep calling her. Hopefully she will come home soon. She is probably hiding somewhere and scared.

If she grew up as a stray, then I think she'll have a good chance of surviving. Cats do have a good sense of direction, so she might return. It's not uncommon that cats go for a walkabout for a day or two, then return. However, she also may be trying to get back to her alley home. If that is somewhat nearby, then I'd check for her there. It's also good to start hanging flyers in the neighborhood and check with local shelters. People tend to pick these kittens up when they see them. I hope that helps and your kitty returns soon.
