Can I use lime sulfur dip on a stray cat's crusty head for mange?

It is not recommend you use ivermectin yourself without the guidance of a vet - it is too easy to overdose. All you need to do is apply a product called Revolution (sealamectin - a derivative of ivermectin). It is a topical spot-on treatment you would use once every few weeks until the skin is cleared. You should be able to get this from the vet. Lime sulphur dip is fine to use but since cats don't tolerate bathing that well it will probably be a fight.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is find to use the Lyme Sulfur dip even if there are scratches on the skin. Lyme sulfur dip is very drying and may cause skin irritation. Adding Humilac by Virbac or Douxo Seborrhea can help that. I hope this helps!

Lime Sulfur dips do carry some risk and the MSDS link here shows some of the risks with its use. https://davismfg.com/resources/uploads/Lime%20Sulfur%20Dip.pdf The suspected deaths that I have recovered in the veterinary files indicate problems arising when the pet accidentally ingests some of the liquid causing corrosive of the GI lining, accidental aspiration of the liquid down the trachea causing pulmonary edema. Also I have commonly seen user error where the applicant didn't dilute the dip properly causing superficial burns. So yes it can be dangerous if any of these things occur. Which is why I generally don't recommend Lime sulfur dips as the first choice of treatment because owners don't always read the safety precautions on the bottle and abide by them, and sometimes accidents do happen. A safer treatment for mites is either oral Bravecto, Nexgard, or Ivermectin 3% (which in itself carries some risks as well that should be discussed with your veterinarian).

Unfortunately, it is better not to bathe them between their lime sulfur dips. We normally dip cats once or twice weekly and do not recommend bathing them between dips. If the smell is not tolerable, you can ask your vet about using an antifungal shampoo to bathe Oliver in. it will not work as well as a lime sulfur dip, but might be another option. Hello. You can try the immune support. I do not think it will help all that much, but it should not hurt. The best thing to do to keep a kitties immune system in great shape is to keep indoors, booster all appropriate vaccination, regularly apply of treat with a good flea & tick product, feed the best food you can afford , & deworm if necessary. As for the dip, mix 4 ounces, or 1/4 of a 16 ounce bottle, in 1 gallon of warm water. Bathe both of your kitties in any shampoo & rinse off soap. While each cat is still wet from rinsing , apply the diluted dip. Once you are done, you can wrap each cat in a towel, but do not let them lick themselves until completely dry so you may need to place an Elizabethan cone ( cone of shame ) on them. Yes, using the lime-sulfur dip will make the fur have a strange crunchy feel to it after it dries. I don't recommend rinsing it off as I do believe it has some residual effect even after dried that can help speed the healing/therapeutic process. Brushing can help the texture feel more normal quicker.

Generally speaking yes you can do it but that would depend on the severity of the ringworm infection (a picture of the lesions would help to better assess its severity). In some cases only the ointment is effective and enough to sort out the infection.
