My kitten has swollen neck glands and terrible breath. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 29 days old | 2 lbs

I have a young female cat and the glands in her neck are swollen. They dont seem to be causing her any pain, and her breath is terrible! I am American, but I am currently living in Morocco, which is where i have the cat. Her name is Monkey. What might it be? Finding a vet here fprfor a house cat isnt very easy!

The swollen glands are probably lymph nodes. They enlarge to fight infection. Monkey probably has a dental infection causing the mouth odor and swollen glands. As long as she’s eating and feeling fine you can wait. She may be loosing her baby teeth and will get better on her own. If she’s not eating and seems sick then she needs veterinary treatment. soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Monkey.
