Why did my kitten die suddenly with leg issues and blindness?

He may have had an injury, been hit by a car or he had a congenital heart defect that caused a blood clot at the bifurcation of the aorta (that paralyses hind legs and hurts terribly). This can also cause a clot in the lungs which would cause breathing problems. Unfortunately most cats with these blood clots die within a short time. I am so sorry for your loss. This is very sad.

I am so very sorry to hear about your kitten. If this kitten was outdoors depending on your location I may worry about a snake bite if this came on very suddenly. Other possible causes would include trauma which could cause swelling if the leg was broken and head trauma could cause shaking and death with increased pressure building up in the skull. If you want to find out the cause of death, a necropsy can be performed by a veterinarian. If you decide to pursue that option, it is best to keep the body in the fridge (not freezer) and get it to the veterinarian ASAP.

Hi, sorry to hear that Bug passed away so suddenly.My main guess would be that she possibly had an aortic thromboembolism, sadly this is a very common feline emergency and it is correlated to an underlying heart disease. Sending you deepest sympathy from the other side of the pond.

I am sorry to hear your kitty did not make it. I am unsure as to what the problem was but it may have been that he was not getting better from the treatments that were given and he just continued to worsen despite treatment. Hard to say since I was unable to examine him and see him in person. He may have eaten something that caused an intestinal obstruction and he may also have had a bad infection somewhere.

Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. Sometimes there will be fluid in the lungs from congestion in the lungs that can leak out after passing. I hope this helps to provide some closure and with time, I hope your heart heals. I'm so sorry for your loss. If there are other kittens it may worth having a necropsy or post mortem exam done on this kitten to know why it died in case there is anything that needs to be done for the others. Without this there is truly no way to know why he died. It may have been parasites, infection, viral disease or a congenital abnormality. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Rescue work can always be heartbreaking. I worry that since the mother abandoned the kittens, she may have known they were sickly. They could have had a congenital issue or mom could've been infected with a disease that severely affected the kittens. You could take the kitten to have post-mortem performed if you would like a final diagnosis, but unfortunately, this is something that happens and we don't always get closure.
