My kitten sucks her paw at night. Is it normal? What should I do?

Kittens, particularly those as young as Freddy, continue to emulate behaviors they performed on their mother's when they nursed. The kneading is the physical movement kittens must make on the teats of the queen in order to get the milk. The suckling on the blanket is the same in that they are emulating nursing behaviors. It is also possible there is something on the blanket that tastes good! There is nothing to worry about in my opinion so long as Freddy is a healthy, happy kitten otherwise.

This is a common thing in kittens that were weaned a little too early. They find it comforting since it is similar to nursing. Most kittens will outgrow it; make sure Jojo has plenty of play time and interaction with other cats or humans. Some puppies do this as a self-soothing behavior, similar to the way a human child might suck on his thumb or a pacifier. It's usually a harmless quirk that often goes away with age, although some dogs continue to do it as adults. It shouldn't be anything to worry about :)

This is a normal, comfort seeking behaviour in kittens and they will generally grow out it as they get older and there is no need to do anything to discourage it unless the skin is becoming damaged in which case you should separate them

Thank you for taking care of this little kitten. To improve this behavior make sure Lisa is getting enough to eat, feeding her every four to six hours during the day will help. I would start her on some kitten wet food or moisten dry with kitten milk replacer. She can start eating solid food off of your finger then direct her to a flat plate to lick the wet food from. This behavior will improve as she isn't hungry and she grows up. I had a kitten once who also did this. I found that when I gave her a stuffed toy with the fur the same color as hers, she slept with the stuffed toy and kneeded and nursed on it for comfort, instead of on me. Sometimes this can be a sign that the kitten was weaned to early or that it is feeling stress. Kneading and sucking on fabric is a way to soothe themselves. The kneading shouldn't pose a health hazard, but the sucking can certainly lead to ingestion of too much foreign material which can lead to an intestinal obstruction. If you find that Ollie prefers one blanket or type of material, try to keep that away from him. You may want to also give him some extra one-on-one time or extra exercise in the form of play to keep him occupied. I see that Kiki is still a young kitten. This behavior is thought to be a carryover from nursing, especially if the kitten is taken from him mother too soon. Many cats tend to outgrow the behavior by the time they are a year old. It's not bad for his health, and he should hopefully outgrow it.
