My kitten's stomach gurgles, smells bad. Is it gas or parasites?

I'm sorry to hear Friday isn't feeling well. Gas pain can be very uncomfortable and could be what is making her lethargic. There are numerous underlying causes of gas and lethargy in kittens, and an exam can tell us a lot as to what is going on. I would be concerned about possible intestinal parasites, as many kittens are born with worms and need to be given a deworming medication to clear them out. She also could have a viral infection or a bacterial overgrowth of her intestinal tract that is causing the problems. The majority of owners should not be able to feel intestines in their pet, so I am worried that you are feeling something abnormal in her abdomen. Sometimes with inflammation the intestines will feel "ropey" when we palpate them. I think Friday needs to be seen by your vet for some supportive care (deworming, fluids, etc), and to try to figure out what the underlying cause is so she can get back on track.

What a cutie!!! A bloated tummy is most often related to worms or an upset tummy. I recommend to call your vet and ask if Raichu needs to be dewormed again. I'm not sure if you changed his diet but I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible and this results in great stool quality, minimal quantity and low odor. Your kitten probably has colitis, which is an inflammation in the colon. This can be caused by stress, diet or changes in diet, and/or intestinal parasites. I would guess that Zia probably has all of these issues going on. It is not too early to take her to the vet. In fact, I would recommend it. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration which can be very serious in a little kitten. Your vet will need to check a fecal sample and may prescribe some antibiotics and probiotics and a dewormed for your kitten. I hope this helps. Best of luck. The most common cause is usually intestinal parasite infection. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Amaru should be dewormed. This will likely need to be repeated in 2, 4 and 6 weeks. An exam can be done to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions. Consider having him tested for FeLV and FIV. This is done with a quick in-clinic blood test. Feed a food quality canned kitten food. If he checks out healthy, discuss an appropriate vaccination plan with your veterinarian.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At almost 9 weeks old feeding her that small of an amount that frequently is not needed. I think feeding her 3 times a day until 4 months old is fine then after that twice daily. At this age she should have started vaccines and had her stool checked for parasites. A big belly can occur after eating (but goes down), from intestinal parasites and if there is abnormal fluid in the belly (from FIP). If Noushmc hasn't been to the Vet she should be seen to start her routine care. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

I suspect Karma has roundworms. Those are common in kittens, and would cause a bloated stomach, increased appetite due to the worms taking nutrients, and a bad smell. Have her seen by a vet in the morning to get a deworming treatment.

It's possible there could be something underlying such as a food allergy (protein sources can cause allergies in some pets!), or even something such as parasites or an infection causing excess gas. It would be a good idea to bring in a fecal sample to your vet to check for the most common causes of GI upset, and if nothing is found consider a food trial with your vet to rule out any possible food allergies that could be contributing.
