My kitten sneezes green mucus but is normal. Should I call the vet?

She might have an upper respiratory infection causing the sneezing and discharge. Since she is eating and playing normal, you can monitor her and see if the problem resolves. If she stops eating, becomes lethargic, has a fever, and/or the discharge increases or becomes discolored then she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment.

Green mucous is a sign of infection. Poor Zena. She may be showing early signs of an upper respiratory infection (URI). If that is the case you may be able to stop things from getting too bad if you act early. Other possible causes are a fungal infection or parasite problem (not as common). Most cats URI's are initially caused by a viral infection that later on turns into a secondary bacterial infection. To help boost Zenas immune system you can give her over the counter Lysine (antiviral medicine) from your local pet store. Then visit your local vet to get her examined and treated (i.e. Antibiotics) if the green mucous continues or if Zena starts sneezing, coughing or having difficulty breathing. Hopefully this is a mild URI and nothing more.

As long as she is otherwise normal, you don't have to rush her into a vet right away. Now if she starts having excessive nasal discharge, eye discharge, coughing, becomes lethargic, and/or has a decrease or loss of appetite, then I would take her into the vet sooner. Best of luck.

More persistent sneezing can be caused by upper respiratory infections, allergic causes, or nasal polyps, among others. As long as Kiara continues to eat, drink, and act normally in the absence of any nasal discharge, it is ok to continue monitoring her at home. At 2.5 months old, I imagine that she is still going to her vet frequently for booster vaccines, so it is worth mentioning the sneezing at her next appointment. I am sorry to hear about Mars. We can see sneezing occasionally with allergies but don't as often see green mucus with allergies. We would also worry about upper respiratory infection given his history of being an outdoor cat, and a foreign body in the nasal passages (sometimes we will find things like blades of grass that have gotten stuck up in the nasal passages. If he is eating and drinking with a normal energy level, no cough, and no breathing difficulty, you can try monitoring him and treating him with saline drops in the nose (one drop in each nostril twice daily) or steam treatments (you can put him into the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10 minutes a few times a day) to see if this helps. If he is not improving or develops a cough, trouble breathing, decreased appetite or energy he needs an examination by a veterinarian. Sounds like Colby Jack could have an upper respiratory infection. Upper respiratory infections are most often caused by viruses, but occasionally secondary bacterial infections can develop so if he continues to have green discharge from his nose I would recommend seeing a veterinarian who may prescribe antibiotics. It is also common for the respiratory viruses to affect the eyes and cause conjunctivitis so watch for redness of the eyes or green/yellow discharge. The sore on his lip could potentially be related as well if it is at the lip junction but if it is on an area with hair it is probably unrelated.

Sneezing can be a sign of an upper respiratory tract infection. You will need to estimate his genital region after he eats to help him urinate and defecate. A mother cat would do this after nursing.
