You are correct about Pyrantel not treating tapeworms. Septran (trimethoprim sulfa) is an antibiotic drug that does not treat parasites. In order to kill the tapeworms you will need to get a drug called praziquantel.

Revolution Plus will not kill tapeworms. You will need to have Bella Blue seen by your veterinarian for confirmation and for treatment with an appropriate medication. Get her back onto flea medication and use it for at least 3 consecutive months (to break the flea life cycle) or, preferably, year round. You will likely need to treat the house as well. Vacuum everywhere and dispose of the bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric and dry in the dryer. Use an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout, to prevent reinfestation. You will need to keep her out of living areas until the area treatment is completely dry.

It depends on which type of worms you are talking about. Revolution does not kill tapeworms which is what I am guessing you are referring to. Profender will kill tapeworms. Tape worm segments look like small grains of rice or sesame seeds. Regular wormers do not kill tapeworm. You would need to use a wormer with the ingredient Praziquantel. Since you mention that he is a kitten, it is better to have him wormed by your veterinarian. Tapeworm will likely not kill your kitten, but it needs to be treated. Your vet can also give James a good wellness exam to determine whether he is healthy. The bloat and diarrhea can very well be due to intestinal parasites.

Roundworms are treated with a different dewormer than tapeworms, normally with pyrantel or fenbendazole. You can get these medications over the counter but if your kitty has not visited a vet yet, it might not be a bad idea to bring them in for an exam along with a stool sample to check for other parasites that could be present and invisible to the naked eye! They look like tapeworm segments so she should be dewormed for tapeworms. She should also be treated for fleas as animals get tapeworms from ingesting fleas. Your vet should be able to prescribe a dewormer to treat.
