Can a kitten get a rabies shot earlier than 12 weeks old?

A kitten this young is not old enough for a rabies vaccine. It would be best to start with an FVRCP vaccine and deworming. This should then be repeated 3 weeks later. Rabies is not typically given until the pet is about 3.5 to 4 months of age. The microchip can be done at any time, but the needle is rather large and uncomfortable. So the number can vary depending on how you space them and when you start. For rabies, side effects are very rare (less than other vaccines, where side effects are already low). For any vaccine, side effects to watch out for are vomiting, extreme lethargy, and significant facial swelling. Finally, she should be spayed around 5-6 months of age.

At 6-8 weeks John would get his first FVRCP vaccine (feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia). Kittens get this vaccine multiple times, usually every 3-4 weeks until they have been given 3-4. The rabies vaccines is given sometime between 12-16 weeks. I hope this helps!

No, I would not worry. Typically the first rabies vaccine isn't given until the puppy is 12 weeks of age. I would take Grey back into the vet when he is 12 weeks old to get his first rabies vaccine (he will need a booster of it four weeks after the first). I hope this helps :-)

Hello. Perhaps you can obtain a note from your veterinarian that a puppy younger than 12 weeks of age has sufficient immunity from its mother ( called maternal antibody protection ) that vaccinating for rabies is unwise at this age. We must follow the guidelines set forth by the vaccine manufacturer & state law. Anything else could possibly affect obtaining full rabies immunity in this puppy because we also do not recommend early vaccinating & then giving a booster vaccination a month later as we do with a distemper parvo vaccine.
