My rescued baby kittens won't eat. Where can I find a shelter?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your new kitten. I recommend that you seek veterinary care. The kitten appears quite thin. If he is not eating and drinking properly, this can be a sign of illness. It is worrisome that he is inactive as well. Kittens should be very playful. Infections (respiratory or gastrointestinal intestinal) are common causes of illness in kittens. Once the cause of his problems can be identified, treatment can be started. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Babies! At almost 5 weeks old these kittens can be completely weaned from a bottle. I always recommend bottle fed kittens start being weaned at 3 weeks old due to constipation or diarrhea side effects of the kitten formula. At this time, with them being so sick, I doubt they will start eating kitten food but you can try. Make sure their noses are clear from discharge so they can breath. Tube feeding is some what risky and you should be shown by a vet or an experienced tech before attempting. Once you are shown it is something you can do on your own but for kittens this old they may fight you on it. The risk is putting the tube down their tracheas instead of the esophagus and putting the food in their lungs causing death or aspiration. I overall recommend these kittens be re-evaluated by a Vet. Maybe they can teach you how to give subcutaneous fluids or teach you how to tube feed. They can consider starting an appetite stimulant. I hope this helps and I wish you and the kittens the best!

Depending on the age of these kittens, they have to be fed quite frequently. Meowing a lot can be sign that they aren't getting enough to eat. If they are friendly you could trot take some pictures of them yourself and try to put them on social media to find them a home. Also, you could look for a no kill shelter in your area so you know they wont put a time limit on their adoption. I hope this helps!

Congratulations on your new additions! The stress of a new home can affect appetite. Be sure they are warm and cozy. A cold kitten will not eat. You can offer a quality canned food and warm it slight to stimulate the appetite. A teaspoon of baby food can be mixed in if necessary. Be sure to have water out at all times and offer up some dry kibble. You can count the bits to see if they are eating dry food instead of canned. Have them examined by your veterinarian to confirm good health or to treat any pre-existing conditions.

As long as there is no active bleeding, lameness or extreme discomfort then you can probably wait until your veterinarian is available tomorrow. You can offer some canned kitten food. If she/he won't eat solid food, offer an appropriate kitten milk replacer, such as KMR. You can find it in the local Petco.

Unfortunately the babies are still young so if mom will not feed them then they will depend on you. The best food is KMR (kitten milk replacer). You should be able to find it online. You can also purchase a nurser bottle. If mom is also not keeping them clean or stimulating urination/defecation this is important as well.
