My 7-month kitten is meowing, whining, scratching. Is she in heat?

Hello. It is possible that Kiara is bothered by some kind of skin parasite, such as cat fleas or mites. You may need to apply an appropriate flea topical to help her. She may also be in heat. She is old enough to come into heat & they can act & vocalize in strange ways. If the behavior continues, please have her seen by your veterinarian. She may simply need to be spayed. Hello. This is common behavior for a female cat that is in heat. Although 5-6 months is young, she is old enough to be starting her first heat cycle. You can have your veterinarian examine her to make sure and discuss spaying her if that is your wish.

Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her. You can also consider a Vet exam to be sure it isn't a medical condition. If she is otherwise fine, I hope that is improves with time and some of the above. Have a great day!

Hi there. If Lily is a young cat (around 8-9 months to a year old) and is not spayed, it's likely that she's in heat. These are all normal behaviors for a cat during her heat cycle. If this is the case, having her spayed should resolve these issues.

I agree with you, it sounds like she’s in heat! I don’t see her age listed, but I see she is not spayed and she’s 4 pounds so I’m assuming she’s a kitten. If she goes outside and is around intact males, she may go into heat a bit earlier than expected, which is usually 6 months. With aar infections cats tend to scratch their ears and shake their head, rather than roll around as you’re describing. If she’s eating normally, I doubt it’s her mouth, but an exam would have to be performed to have a better idea. Allergies would be possible but often don’t start causing an issue until adulthood, and again would be expected to cause itchiness and scratching, redness on the skin, sneezing, etc. If her abnormal behavior continues, take her in. Again I suspect she may be in heat. Good luck with her!

Hello! With the information you described and Zoe's age it could indicate an early heat cycle. In that case getting her spayed would resolve the meowing. But meowing could also be a sign of pain/discomfort. A thorough exam by your veterinarian may help locate the problem and if anything more is needed

They will also posture with the hindquarters raised in the air and the tail off to one sign. If she is eating, drinking and acting normally, you can monitor her.
