My kitten is lethargic. What's the cause and treatment cost?

Costs will vary by geographic location and by clinic. Most will not vaccinate a visibly sick animal. She will need an exam at the very least after which blood work may be recommended to assess major organ function or to diagnose infection. Treatment and/or supportive care may be indicated until she recovers. Once she recovers and is healthy, she should be vaccinated and spayed. Call the local clinic and request an estimate for services. Most will provide one as a matter of hospital policy.

This could also be normal in a kitten as they are not always very active at that age. It sounds like he is getting sick. Without additional clinical signs it is hard to say exactly what is causing his lethargy and decreased appetite but he could be starting with a respiratory virus or a gastrointestinal virus. He could also have parasites that need to be treated. If it continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run lab work to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If he is unvaccinated, please discuss a vaccine plan with your vet once he has recovered from this illness.

Poor Little Bit! In a young cat an infectious disease would have to be high on the list. I would be suspicious that she could have the dry form of FIP, eventhough the bloodwork is not showing typical changes that usually occur with the disease. Unfortunately, FIP is difficult to diagnose but you could ask your vet about doing an xray and ultrasound of her abdomen to look for changes. Hope she feels better soon!

Usually these signs are due to a respiratory tract infection/inflammation due to a viral infection. Herpes virus is usually involved. These kittens may be suffering from fading kitten syndrome, or were born by a cat infected with FeLV. Since two kittens are already dead and the third kitten is showing signs, I suggest you take the remaining kittens to a veterinarian today, as this is an emergency. Sometimes supportive care can save them, however if they indeed suffer from one of these two diseases, there is a high mortality incidence. A veterinarian can examine and diagnose the problem and assess your kittens and hopefully treat them.

Hello, sorry to hear about Jasmine. Kittens this young may suffer from intestinal parasites, upper respiratory infections and other viral infections such as FIV and FeLV. Other conditions which may make them lethargic include dietary indiscretions or ingestion of foreign matrial. If jasmine is eating and drinking ok, without any vomiting or diarrhea she may be able to wait a little longer until you can bring her to a veterinarian. If she is otherwise not eating well, has vomiting or diarrhea, then you should consider having her evaluated soon. Monitor for any sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, eye discharge, constipation, vomiting or diarrhea. Best of luck and hope this helps!
