My kitten was hit by a fridge door. Why is he lethargic and not playful?

Trauma to the eye, head, and neck can result in many different problems. I am glad she seems improved today, but I would still highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. If the eye has an injury early intervention is best. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.

Poor Gibby! I know that it can be scary when our four legged friends aren't feeling well. Sudden lethargy and closed eyes could be due to a variety of issues, including head trauma (even falling from furniture), seizures, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), exposure to toxins, among others. It is encouraging that he was willing to drink some milk. If he seems to be mentally appropriate, try offering him a bit of kitten food to see if he will eat or smear some corn syrup on his gums. If he perks up right after eating, Gibby may have experienced a sudden drop in his blood sugar. If he still seems "off", lethargic, closed eyes, not eating or acting normally, Gibby should go to his vet urgently for evaluation to try to get to the bottom of this issue. However, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to examine him to see if he appears to be painful for example which could be a reason to become lethargic and less interactive. He could also be somewhat traumatized by that encounter which he could potentially eventually get over. However, I still think that he should be evaluated. Good luck and have a good night! Poor baby. It sounds to me like he needs additional medical attention. His pain control may not be adequate for his injuries, or he could be developing an infection. I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet clinic tonight to be assessed and his treatment adjusted.

That is very concerning and he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the extent of his injuries and determine the best way to treat. Please call your vet or take him to an emergency clinic so he can be examined right away. He may need an anti-inflammatory and other medications to treat the trauma.

The problem with dog and cat fights or altercations is that it is hard to know the extent of the internal injuries even if there is no external injuries. It is really important to have him checked by a veterinarian to determine for example if he has any evidence of internal injuries such as bleeding into the abdomen, a broken rib or something of that nature. He is probably avoiding contact because he is painful. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and evaluation. They may proceed with radiographs and blood work for example depending on his physical examination. At the very least they can start him on pain control medications. Good luck!

Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.
