Why are my kittens losing hair in patches? Is it treatable?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

So my cat gave birth to kittens a month ago. Well the kittens are starting to lose hair in small patches. As in they completely go bald there. The same thing happened to one of the cats in the last litter which completely went bald all over our vet told us that we should not keep the kitten and that the skin disease can attack us too so we had to abandon it. What should we do to the newer kittens with minor baldness like this? Is this treatable?

The boldness may be treatable based upon the cause. Skin mites and ringworm are common causes of hair loss in kittens and may spread to humans. I recommend to have the kittens tested. Testing is easy and straightforward. I also recommend to have the mother cat spayed when the kittens are 12 weeks old since this is the second litter that has had problems. Additionally, spaying has many health benefits as well as helps to control the problem of pet overpopulation. I hope this helps and best of luck.
