Why is my cat pulling fur and scratching after housing kittens?

That is a simple answer. Stress licking does not typically cause redness of the skin, just hair loss and patchy bald areas. However, a flea allergy will cause redness, bumps and hair thinning typically on the lower back or lower belly. I hope that this helps! Best of luck and take care.

With this breed and the signs I would be worried about ringworm. Persian cats and other long-haired breeds are prone to this type of fungal infection and in fact the mother may have it and be what's called an asymptomatic carrier. I recommend practicing strict hygiene protocols with handling the kittens and discussing with your veterinarian if they feel they should be testing for ringworm. I agree with your veterinarian that this is unlikely to be a side effect of the medication previously given.

That could be due to an allergic disorder (usually flea allergy dermatitis), presence of parasites, or psychogenic type of overgrooming (usually related to stress). The different causes must be ruled out treating for parasites, giving meds for allergies and eventually trying to remove stress causes. A check is then required. I would clean the area daily with just some warm water, & perhaps comb out the hair with a very fine comb, such as a flea comb. I can not tell if she is causing trauma to the skin, but watch carefully if the area seems to be getting worse. You may have to separate the kitten from her mother once she starts to eat a bit on her own ( at about 4 weeks of age ) for periods of time to give the skin a chance to start to heal. Take care.

The boldness may be treatable based upon the cause. Skin mites and ringworm are common causes of hair loss in kittens and may spread to humans. I recommend to have the kittens tested. Testing is easy and straightforward. I also recommend to have the mother cat spayed when the kittens are 12 weeks old since this is the second litter that has had problems. Additionally, spaying has many health benefits as well as helps to control the problem of pet overpopulation. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Hair loss/pulling out hair can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection (like ringworm), dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, stress, or a combination of the above. If you can safely contain and transport the feral cat, I recommend making an appointment to have the affected puppies seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the hair loss/ pulling as soon as you can. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area (taken by a procedure known as a skin scraping) and examined under the microscope to determine what kind(s) of infection may be present and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. The cat pulling out fur could have fleas, allergies, skin infection, mites, etc. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and best treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications. Your other cat may have an upper respiratory infection and/or eye infection. She should also be seen by a vet for treatment as she may need an antibiotic and eye drops. Please have your vet take a look at both of them so treatment can be started.
