My kitten reacted badly to flea treatment. Should I wash her again?

You were very smart to wash the medication off Cookie. If you did not use dish soap, I would recommend to rewash the area using dish soap as it is very good at stripping the coat. While I cannot be 100% positive that everything is ok (as I cannot physically examine her), it's generally a good sign that she has calmed down and is acting more normal. You have two options, take her into the veterinarian or monitor her. If you want to be as safe as possible, you could get her into the veterinarian tonight for an examine as they would be the best ones to determine if there are any neurologic abnormalities or any other causes of concern. If you choose to monitor her, you need to watch her closely for increased respirations, open mouth breathing (panting like a dog would), stupor, dizziness, trouble walking, seizures, hyper salivating or other abnormalities that involve her central nervous system. If Cookie displays any of the above abnormalities, I would recommend to take her straight away to the veterinarian. Make sure that she is eating and drinking. When in doubt, take her in as its better to be safe than sorry. Go with your gut. I would not recommend to use this product again on her to be safe. Although reactions can occur with any product, I think Revolution is generally well tolerated and I routinely recommend it. You may also talk to your regular veterinarian about appropriate products to use in your area if you have specific risks like ticks. I noticed that you listed her weight as 4lbs (which would be very small for an 8month old cat) and the product is labeled for 5lbs. While it may be a typo, make sure to always use the appropriately sized product to decrease the potential for side effects. I hope this helps and that Cookie recovers normally! Yes I would be concerned, as this can be a sign of flea treatment toxicity. I would put her into a bath immediately, and gently wash the treatment off with water water and Dawn dish soap. Continue to monitor her for signs of toxicity, including vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, hyper salivation, and depression. If you see any of those signs, take her into your vet immediately. I would make sure that the flea treatment you put on Annie was for cats and not for dogs, as it's very important to have a cat dose for cats because they are so sensitive to the flea medication. I would wait a few days before reapplying a flea treatment, and I would use a different brand than what you just used. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution.

If it was applied recently, I would bathe him in dawn or some equivalent gentle dishwashing liquid. This can help decrease its contact on his skin. If it has been several days since it was applied, I would still recommend bathing him, but would also recommend reaching out to his regular veterinarian to see if there are any medications that he may need in order to feel more comfortable and less itchy. Poor Shadow! She is very young to be fully immersed in water, it is incredibly stressful and dangerous for young animals. Moreover, dish soap is very bad for their skin and coat and not even a truly effective way of killing fleas, when the eggs hatch there will be no residual activity. In future it would be much kinder and more effective to buy a spot on flea treatment such as frontline. Now as for why she is so poorly: best case scenario is that she has gotten very cold and stressed and her body is temporarily reacting to it. But on the same hand she may have got water in her lungs ( her lungs are tiny so it doesn't take much) and this will make her incredibly sick and is potentially life threatening. You need to get her to a vet asap because if something serious is going on it needs to be treated quickly. Hopefully it is just that she is in a bit of shock. I would check the instructions on the package of the product you applied for instructions but most say not to bathe within 24 hours of application. I would be worried about overdosing as she would have absorbed most of the chemical already but some may have washed off. I would wait to retreat and see if there are any live fleas in a few days. You can continue treating with grooming with a flea comb and treated baths until the package says you can retreat (usually a month later)

Dish soap is not recommended for delicate kitten skin and I recommend you start her on a course of omega fatty acid supplements as soon as possible (such as viacutan) to try to replenish the natural oils and moisture in her skin. I recommend using a fipronil based flea spray 48hours after the last wash to help reduce the fleas and also spray all bedding and sleeping areas with an insecticidal flea spray alongside daily, gentle flea combing

You did exactly the right thing by washing off Odin and Toby right away. Continue to monitor them, and if you see any additional signs of toxicity such as muscle tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, depression and incoordination, I would take them into an ER vet right away. Otherwise, I would have them both examined by a vet in the morning to be safe.
