My kitten and family are itching. What OTC remedies can I use?

I don't believe there are any over the counter medications that are safe to administer to a 4 week old kitten. Additionally, I'm not sure there are any that will kill scabies. Typically I use Advantage Multi or Revolution to kill scabies. You can get these from your veterinarian. Best of luck with your baby!

There are limited medicines you can give cats from over the counter but the place to start is a bath in baby shampoo to get the scales and dandruff off. Second you can get ear mite medication and dewormer me from a local pet store. They also sell flea medicine such as advantage or frontline that is safe for over 8 weeks of age. If it is ringworm then it is contagious to people and other animals and will need a prescription from a vet for proper medicine.

She needs an oral anti fungal medication because Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, and the whole body needs to be treated. The oral anti fungal medications are prescription only, so you have to make an appointment with the vet. Poor Ming! I wouldn't put baby oil on her, that won't help with the itching and will only make her greasy. date on his flea treatment, I can give you one for him. This itching can be caused by fleas, mites, ringworm, or allergies. If she isn't up to date on her flea treatment, I can give you one for her. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. If she is up to date on her flea treatment, I recommend taking her into the vet for an exam tomorrow. The vet can do blood tests, skin scrapings, and use a Wood's lamp to diagnose allergies, mites, and ringworm. Once the cause of the itching is found, the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment. I have never come across a topical medication that has been effective for treating ringworm in cats aside from prescription-based lime sulfur dips. The concern is that the Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, such that an isolated topical spray will not cover all surfaces of every hair, and lead to frequent recurrence. He needs a topical prescription medication. I would call his vet to see if there is way you can get him on a cancellation list to get him in sooner. Poor Lilo! If there is any concern for flea allergy, treat for fleas even if you don't see them. Frontline or a similar product used regularly may help immensely. (a flea allergic animal does not have to be riddled with fleas to be itchy.... just 1 or 2 fleas will make a flea allergic animal feel super itchy and affect their skin). I would encourage getting her on a flea preventative even if you aren't seeing fleas because they can be very difficult to spot and some cats are very sensitive to flea bites and can have just one bite can make them quite itchy. In terms of over the counter products you can try, I would consider starting an omega fatty acid supplement such as Welactin, which can decrease inflammation and itching, and consider using a topical product such as Duoxo Calm mousse or spray on the area if bathing is difficult.
