My rescued kittens have eye/nose infections. Can I treat them at home?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

We recently rescued two kittens from the streets. They came to us with bad eye infections. They also appear to have infection coming out of their noses. What can I do to help them heal? I cannot afford a vet and would really like to help them here at home. They are the sweetest things. Loving the attention they are getting. Sorry. These are the only photos I have of them for the moment.

They most likely have upper respiratory infections (URI) and will need antibiotics (both oral and topical in the eyes). If you are going to adopt/rescue kittens you need to be able to afford veterinary care. They are going to need vaccines, deworming and to be spayed/neutered as well. So, if you can't afford their treatment you should consider relinquishing them to the local Humane Society so they can get treated. This is not something you can treat at home, I'm sorry to say.

All that being said, there are many low cost/affordable vet clinics in your area (based on the zip code you provided) so if you really want to keep them then find a clinic and get them treated. You may have to drive closer to Tampa. I know ACT has a regular vet clinic as well as spay/neuter/vaccination services.

Check locally if there are low cost veterinary clinics in your area possibly connected with the local shelter. Thank you for submitting your question regarding the kittens and thank you for fostering! I worry that the kittens have an upper respiratory tract infection and need antibiotics. I do not understand why the shelter will not treat them. They are young and I assume otherwise healthy kittens. If their symptoms can be treated, they would be highly adoptable. They need to see a veterinarian. Perhaps the shelter can reimburse you for their visit? In the meantime, encourage them to eat and drink. You can place them in the bathroom while you shower. Close the door and let the steam build up. Breathing the warm humid air can lessen any congestion they may have. I hope this information helps!

My newborn kittens have eye infections. What should I do to help?

Poor kittens! Eye infections can be viral or bacterial. Unfortunately you’re not likely to clear an eye infection with at home care. Just like with humans, these guys require antibiotic eyedrops which you will need to get from the veterinarian. I recommend to call your clinic and make an appointment ideally today. Eye infections in young kittens can become serious and cause permanent damage to the corneas. Bring the whole litter and the mother. Certainly cleaning off the teats and the rest of the environment will help but all the kittens have been exposed at this point. Cat cold, yellow eyes. How to treat URI at home without a vet?

Most respiratory infections in cats are viral induced. he likely has a secondary bacterial infection due to the yellow discharge. You can try and add anti virals to his diet such as Lysine which can be purchased at any pet store. Keep his eye and nose clean and wipe them daily. You can apply a warm compress to help with his eyes I would try to find a shelter or rescue that can help with cost to get him treated at a vet since you likely need eye antibiotics and medicine by mouth

My sick stray kittens have eye infection, wheezing, fleas. Will they be okay?

What cute kitties. I agree that upper respiratory infections caused by either calicivirus or herpesvirus is usually the culprit when dealing with stray kitties. I am. It sure what bone you are referring to without seeing it in person, but I would have to guess that this is probably just their floating rib that is prominent because they are likely underweight. The fleas and upper respiratory infection should be a relatively easy fix through your vet with proper flea prevention, antibiotics and an anti-viral (i.e. Lysine powder or gel). Continue to wipe their eye discharge with a warm wat cloth until their vet appt. Good luck at the vet tomorrow, and I hope your kitties get better soon. Take care.
