My new kitten has eye discharge. Is it too young to be away from mom?

Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until he is eating the dry kitten food only.

Any eye problem is considered serious because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It's possible that Shy does have a scratch on his eye, that can often only be visualized with a fluorescein stain. It could also be that he has an eye infection. Hello. This could be the beginning of a little upper respiratory infection. Since most of these are viruses, usually with time they go away ( usually 10-14 days ). As long as Spice continues to eat & act normal, just keep the eye clean of the mucous with a little warm water. If this progresses to a little sneezing, again, as long as he is acting/eating fine, there is no need for treatment. This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease.
