Is it safe for my healthy cat to eat urinary food with my other cat?

Yes it is, C/D is a prescription food, it's basically food + medicine for various urinary conditions. regular urinary health foods are non medical diets that usually have much less medical effects on a urinary tract condition, it can be good enough long term but the prescription diet is almost always a must short term.

If you are feeding Hill's y/d diet, then yes, you can give it to all the cats. The cats that are not hyperthyroid though need iodine supplementation since the y/d diet is an iodine-restricted diet. This is VERY important. It is recommended that you take those healthy cats aside once a day and feed them a tablespoon (per cat) of regular canned cat food to increase their iodine intake. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It should be no problem for Kaya to eat the C/D. In fact, in households with one cat who has urinary problems and another who does not, I often recommend feeding the c/d to everyone anyway since I don't want the urinary cat to eat anyone else's food. (That being said, if urinary cat will stay our of Kaya's food, a kitten food IS more ideal for Kaya for the next couple months at least.) Best wishes to you and your kitties!

Jerry will still get the benefits of the diet from the dry kibble so it is fine to use this. If he won’t eat the canned food, give him a water fountain as this may encourage him to drink more water. There are other diets that are indexed for crystals and he may like one of the canned varieties. I recommend to ask your veterinarian about which one is best. Hi there, a little while back Hills re-formulated their diets for urinary concerns and changed the name. The product that is like s/d is now called "urinary multicare" . It is very important that Stoli says on a prescription food designed for prevention of urinary crystals. "Over the counter " pet store foods do not prevent formation of crystals and stones which can cause another blockage.

The diets do have different mechanisms of action. However, as long as the Hills diet makes up 90% of Milo's total calorie intake or more, it should work just fine. It sounds like Milo only gets the canned food every other day so I suspect it is just fine. When in doubt, decrease the amount of canned food. You could count up how many calories he gets in the dry and how many he gets in the canned. Then do the math and get an exact ratio as well. Then you will have no doubts!
