At what age or weight is it safe to give my kitten dewormer?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

At what weight is it safe to give a kitten dewormer? Our shelter uses the yellow stuff that starts with the letter P. Lots of controversy over what weight is safe to give them a small amount. I have heard 12 oz and 8 oz. What weight is it safe to give?

I usually go by age vs weight. It is safe to give healthy kittens that are two weeks old and older. Usually it is repeated every two weeks and the dosage is calculated by their weight. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your kittens.
