Can my 6-month-old vaccinated kittens catch a foster dog's cold?

Theoretically yes as kennel cough is just a generic name to define a complex infection due to a mix between bacteria and different viruses. Practically is less commonly seen in cats and it is unlikely to be transmitted from dogs to cats (unless they really share the same house). From the core vaccines, rabies would be the main virus that could be transmitted from a kitten to a dog. If your dog isn’t up to date on rabies you should make sure he gets vaccinated not just due to potential exposure but also because it’s a very important human public health concern. I would guess that most kittens going into a foster situation would be too young for a rabies vaccine. You may want to have Onyx on a flea and tick preventative since young kittens can have fleas, and even if they have been dewormed intestinal parasites could still be a concern if he could access the litter box. The vaccine does not cover against every kind of organisms that can cause kennel cough, so your dies have a possibility of contracting it. But your dog can only spread it if infected. Just because your was exposed does not mean he is a carrier or contagious to other dogs unless he is showing symptoms

That is a good question. So, the vaccine does not suddenly stop working after 6 months, but will provide Bobbie Jo the best protection from those viruses for the first 6 months after vaccination. In order for Bobbie Jo to infect another dog, she would need to be infected with one of those viruses, then spread them to another dog. Those are respiratory viruses, so the most common way they are spread is through secretions from the nose and mouth, but a bite is not needed for transmission. Most commonly a dog will cough or sneeze in an area and infect the area and other dogs. So, the concern for Bobbie Jo would be if she were exposed to a dog that was infected with one of those viruses that she would be more susceptible to them if her vaccination was overdue. Most upper respiratory infections are species specific, meaning that cats can't transmit them to dogs (and vice-versa) - so it's unlikely that your dog would be able to catch this infection from the kitten. But if she does, it should be easily treated with medication from your veterinarian. If Raven continues to have runny eyes, or develops squinting, redness, or other signs of a problem, I would recommend taking her to the vet for a check-up. If needed, the vet can prescribe antibiotic eye drops or oral antibiotics for her to help get things cleared up :)

It is possible that you could spread the disease, but if your cats are appropriately vaccinated they should have some degree of immunity to it. Keep an eye on them for changes in behavior/illness and call your veterinarian if anything changes.
