My kitten had one antibiotic shot for cat flu. Does she need more?

It depends on exactly which shots were given. There are some long acting antibiotic injections that are equivalent to a 10 day course of antibiotics. If your kitten was given one of those, then that may be enough. You will have to continue to monitor him and make sure he is getting better every day. The canned food contains a lot of moisture, so it is common for an animal not to drink much if they eat wet food.

Poor girl. Her current temperature is normal so that is good. I would suggest going back to the vet for another type of antibiotic. It seems the current one is not doing the trick, so another class of antibiotic may be all she needs to get this to clear up. I typically like to use Azithromycin in cats with upper respiratory disease because it is highly effective. You should also get Zazu on an anti-viral supplement daily to help boost her immune system. Look for Lysine powder from your local pet store and this should help her immunity and help prevent flare ups in the future, since most URI's are viral related in cats. Usually, an upper respiratory infection should start to improve within 2-3 days of starting antibiotics - so if he's been on meds for a week now and you don't see any improvement at all, I would recommend taking him back to the vet for a recheck. He may need a different antibiotic, or an anti-viral medication like famciclovir if his current meds aren't working.

This may be a virus and not a bacterial infection. If that's the case antibiotics will not help and the virus needs to run its course which can take up to two weeks. As long as she isn't getting worse, running a fever and is eating I would keep monitoring her. If at any time she does get worse or isn't getting any better after 7-10 days, I would call your veterinarian. Let her rest unless she wants to play. Hello! It sounds like Tessa may have an underlying herpes virus infection, this allows upper respiratory infections to attack more easily. Herpes is common in cats and not a huge issue, other than occasional infections like you describe. I would ask you vet about some cat lysine to boost her immune system and do another course of antibiotics...but I would have her seen just in case she needs as stronger antibiotic. I hope that helps! I would have your other cat looked at just to make sure it is safe to give those particular meds. Without seeing the patient I cannot say for sure whether or not it is safe. Your vet prescribes certain meds depending on the health of each individual animal and what is going on with them. Also, depending on the meds prescribe, some are only good for 10-14 days and are no longer effective afterwards.

Yes this should be fine as long as she is feeling better. Also, you may consider putting her on a daily immune boosting vitamin like viralys or vetriscience lysine treats. It doesn’t treat the virus but it may help to boost her immune system. I hope this helps!
