Is it normal for a 5-month-old tabby kitten to still have blue eyes?

This sounds like your kitty may have what is called a congenital nystagmus (fast or slow movement of the eyes back and forth). This is commonly seen in Himalayan, Siamese, albino, and white haired cats. Typically this condition is not suggestive of any serious neurological abnormalities with the blue iris pets that have non-pigmented retinas (seen only on ophthalmic exam with vet). This condition most likely has been present since your kitty was born, but it was not as intense and therefore could have gone unnoticed. I would recommend that you have a vet to look at the eyes during a regular exam just to double check our suspicions and also to ensure the non-pigmented retina is there. This condition also does not tend to affect your cats vision or quality of life.

The only way to know if there is something wrong with the eyes is to have them examined by a vet. It's hard for me to see what could be going on from the pictures. I would recommend discussing this option with the breeder before finalizing the purchase.

The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor baby! He might have been born with small eyes or the eyes got infected and were injured severely and permanently damaged. It also can be genetic or from drugs the mother received while pregnant. I wouldn't breed Mocha if this could be a genetic conditions If the eyes are painful, then they should be addressed when he is older. He may have to have the eyes removed. He likely can not see out of them anyway. If they are not painful then just leave the eyes be. I hope this helps!

This can be on the cornea (surface of his eye) or on the lens. He could have a scratch across his eye or even a scar. If the problem is on his lens, then a cataract is a possibility. His veterinarian will examine his eye with a special instrument called an ophthalmic scope. Some tests may be recommended as well. I hope this information helps!

He needs to see a vet right away, as this could permanently damage his eyesight. You are doing the right thing by keeping the lighting dim and covering the windows, and you want to make sure the eye isn't too dry, which is why he needs to see a vet to get checked out. He can't be separated long from his mother, so please bring the mother and siblings to the appointment as well, and I would take them all in today. He should see a vet asap. I hope this helps!

Oh boy. Felix needs to see a vet ASAP if you want a chance at saving the eye. There could be an ulcer, infection, or it could be secondary to several upper respiratory viruses. The vet will do an exam and look closely at the eye to determine what treatments and pain medications are needed.
