My kittens died with bloody stool. How to prevent illness in others?

Intestinal worms are quite common in kittens, and this certainly could be the cause of Stella's stool issues with blood. Intestinal worms are contagious, so I would keep her separated from your other cats and dogs for now (not sure what you have sorry!). Make her an appointment with the vet for a health check, and the vet can deworming her as well discuss vaccines and flea treatments. Give a vet a call now to make an appointment. I hope this helps!

Poor kitties. It sounds like these kitties likely have an intestinal bug causing their symptoms. I would visit your vet to have their stools tested first to determine what bug is present, and then they can get prescribed the appropriate dewormer. They may also need to do a short course of antibiotics to get the gut flora back to normal, especially if you are seeing them straining (colitis). I hope that your little ones feel better soon! It would be helpful to know the age of kittens when you got them and how soon they developed symptoms as this would help determine whether they had it before you got them or were exposed afterwards, by other cats or possibly common food bowls, litter trays etc. I would recommend getting an older cat/kitten that has been fully vaccinated at least 3weeks before you take it next time and sterilise or replace all bedding, bowls etc

blood in the stools is usually a sign of a viral/bacterial gastrointestinal infection, it could also be due to intestinal worms (less common). you need to take them to the vet quite urgently in order to get treatment, this is not something you can treat at home.

If she has an infectious disease the vaccine will not prevent it from getting worse. Bloody stool could be from a virus, a bacterial infection, a GI foreign body, or parasites. Even if you have dewormed her, not all dewormers get every parasite. If the bloody stool continues I would recommend borrowing money to have her seen by a vet. Good luck and kisses to Miss Kitty!

Unfortunately, sometimes kitties can be born with a congenital heart defect, which then causes sudden death. A vet will not always be able to hear this heart defect on auscultation. She could have also had a type of stroke, and attacked your son because she all of a sudden felt sick. There are also infectious diseases that can cause bleeding and diarrhea, especially when they occur in the peracute form. I think you should make sure your other animals are up to date on vaccines, and if there is the slightest suspicion that the other cat or the dog are "off", you should take them to a vet right away.

Hello, This could be several different things. Not eating following by seizures makes me concerned that they may be hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) from not eating. This usually leads to seizures, which can be associated with changes in urination and defecation. Infectious diseases are also very common in kittens. Many of the mother cats are not vaccinated and can pass viral diseases to their young. Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline Herpes Virus, and Feline Panleukopenia can all cause kitten deaths. Unfortunately, with kitten rescue, we can't ever be sure of the mother's health beforehand. The better controlled the feline overpopulation problem is and the more cats are vaccinated, the better it will be overall. Thoroughly disinfecting bowls, litter dishes, floors, etc and quarantining cats in your home is the best way to minimize disease spread. I hope this is helpful.
