My kitten was attacked: peeing outside box, lethargic. What's wrong?

Soo about a month ago my German shepherd attacked my kitten and shortly after her head didn't feel right it felt like her skull may have been shifting but I don't know. Now all of a sudden she's peeing out of her box and just tonight she peed and pooped on my pillow but her whole demeanor has been off like she's not energetic like she usually is she is eating. And drinking still but I'm not sure what could be happening. Any ideas, I've also been giving her feline UTI meds thinking an infection!

Hello. I am sorry to hear your little kitten isn't feeling well. Anytime you have inappropriate urination or defecation you should rule out underlying medical causes first. This includes checking for a urinary tract infection (you may be giving the wrong antibiotics, you may need to culture the urine), checking for worms, and bloodwork. Also, due to a possible brain injury that could be ongoing if there is an unstable piece of bone present, this could be neurological. The other possible cause for inappropriate urination is behavioural. Try making sure her litter box is always clean, and that she has two litter boxes (rule of thumb is number of cats + 1 = number of litter boxes). Often cats won't use the litter if it isn't up to their standards and may let you know by using your pillow. If she is not energetic and lethargic at all you should have her assessed by a veterinarian, especially to check for unstable skull fractures or possible swelling or infection in the brain. I hope she feels better soon.

Since she seems to prefer laying down, it's also possible that she's experiencing some degree of pain or discomfort. Some of these possible conditions include pancreatitis, infectious diseases (FIV, feline leukemia, FIP, etc.), constipation, kidney disease, liver disease, toxin exposure (did she eat a plant, medication or something else she shouldn't have?), or many other conditions. The fact that she hasn't been using the litter box normally might be a sign that she is dehydrated, even though she's drinking water when it's placed in front of her. At this point, it would be best to take Lily to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation. Your vet will need to examine her and will likely recommend some diagnostic testing, which may include blood work, an ultrasound or x-rays, to get to the bottom of this issue. I hope that she feels better soon!

Why is my sick kitten lethargic and stinky after lying in litter?

Poor girl. Kitty sounds very ill and may have an infection. You need to take her to your local vet right away if you want to help her at this point. The vet needs to do some bloodwork on her to determine if an infection is present and then prescribe medication to hopefully stabilize her condition quickly. This cannot be treated at home, especially since we don't know what the underlying problem is. Please take her now. My 11-week kitten pees outside litter box. UTI? Should I call vet?

Yes, I would bring Pigeon into the vet. This can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones, and the only way to know for sure is to have her checked out by a vet, do bloodwork, and a urinalysis. Because she was using the box previously and now isn't, that can also be another sign something is wrong. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. Until she sees the vet, feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. I hope this helps!

My sick cat is recovering but hasn't used the litter box. What to do?

It is not uncommon when pets have not been eating or drinking well to have more extended time between visits to the box. It your kitty was a bit dehydrated from being sick this will also mean less urine in the box too. As it seems that your kitty is feeling better with the care your vet provided i would give it a little time. If he or she is eating then things should normalize. If he or she starts to feel sick again then dehydration may make things worse, and a recheck with your vet is then advised. My cat is still lethargic, not eating after UTI meds. Should I worry?

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I am more concerned about the fact that she is not eating well and that needs to be further addressed as it is unlikely to be due to a urinary tract infection. I recommend that you have Luchadora reevaluated by your veterinarian on Saturday for further assessment and treatment. Keep in mind that if she is not feeling well, they may not proceed with vaccines that day. You may take in a urine sample that day. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Kitten low energy, less playful, eating less after a fall. What to do?

I'm sorry that Lilly isn't her normal self lately! You are correct that if she fell hard, that could be the reason why she isn't as active lately. She could be painful, even though she is still running and walking normally as cats can be good at hiding their pain. Lethargy can also be caused by a medical problem, such as systemic illness, infection, or inflammation. Given this has been going on for a week now, I'd recommend having Lilly seen by a vet for a health check. It's also way good to have a cat checked out by a vet when they are acting differently than normal. The vet can let you know if she is in pain or if there is a medical cause behind her change in behavior, and how best to treat it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. The vet can prescribe safe medications as needed. Good luck, I hope this helps!
