My new kitten stays in one room. How do I introduce him to my home?

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 28 days old | 13 lbs

My 8week ragdoll kitten many a times sleeps on floor or some small spaces. Is it ok? I have put in place a huge cardboard box for him but he doesn't sleep in it. I am yet to introduce him to entire home. We have bought him 10days ago. He dosent go out of my room himself and when we take him out he hops back to my room. How should I make him familiar with entire home?

Yes, this is perfectly normal - it's fine for Baluu to sleep wherever he is comfortable. Many cats and kittens like to sleep in small, enclosed spaces because it makes them feel safe. He may also like to sleep on the floor sometimes, which is perfectly fine :)

It sounds like right now, he feels the most comfortable in your room - this is also fine. If you're ready to start introducing him to the rest of the house, I would recommend simply leaving the door to your room open so that he can venture out when he wants to. He should always be able to run back into your room at any time if he gets anxious or scared. Over the next few weeks, he should start to explore more and more as he gets more confident - don't rush this process, as it will only scare him more if you try to force him.

it is ok to sleep with your adult cats most of the time. Eventually the kittens will probably come lie with you as well. In the beginning there will probably be hisses etc. but eventually over time the cats probably will take turns. Do not lock them inot the 'safe room', keep it open, so they can start to get more couragsous venturing out and start to interact with the adult cats. It will take time, but eventually they will all at least tolerate each other.

You are doing a good job. As long as she has a quiet place in your room with food, water and litter, and a soft place to sleep then I wouldn’t worry about it. Leave the door open and she will start to explore other rooms on her own, often at night when it’s quieter. Gradually at her own pace she’ll come out and be with everyone. It is important to give him lots of love, attention and play time. However, it is equally important that he is left alone to have nap time. He is rapidly growing and developing and much of this happens while his body rests. When you need to leave him alone, be sure to play with him first. This will help to tire him out. Then keep him in a small safe area such as a bedroom. Make sure that he has access to his litterbox, food and water. He will likely nap most of the time you are gone and play alone some. It is important for him to learn to be alone. I hope this information helps!

How to help scared new kittens adjust to their new home and free roam?

You can use baby gates or covered X-pens to help make the open space a bit smaller as you gradually introduce the kittens to the area. This can help control where they go and make it easy for them to adjust. Shutting doors, etc can also help control the number of areas they go to at once. Once they are more used to the area, you can then open up more space. I also highly recommend a pheromone diffuser plug-in such as Feliway in the room you'll be introducing them to in order to help with stress.

My cat hides under the bed after moving. What can I do?

Poor BB! I would recommend putting his litter box, food and water bowls, etc. in the room with the bed and leaving him alone with the door closed for now. He will eventually come out to eat, drink, and use the bathroom when things are quiet and he feels comfortable - many cats wait until nighttime when everyone is asleep to do this. A Feliway pheromone diffuser in the room may also help. It may take a week or two for him to be comfortable enough to come out from under the bed for more than a moment or two, so I would be patient for now and give him time to adjust. Once he's acting normal again, you can transition his food and water bowls, litter box, etc. to wherever you would like them to be in the long term :)

How do I transition outdoor 8-week-old kittens to an indoor home?

I would probably start by confining them to one room of the house while they may still be becoming accustomed to being indoors and litter box use. Be sure they have plenty of places to hide and also areas to climb like a cat tree or shelf. Also I would recommend a Feliway diffuser in the room which can be calming to many cats!

How to help a new cat stressed in a small home on its first night?

I'd put Cuddles in a small room with food, water, and a litter box. Keep the door closed, and allow her time to get comfortable in there. After a day or two, you can let her out to start exploring the rest of the house. I hope this helps!
