Indoor cat has a cut and is acting strange. What should I do?

If this is the case, Precious will require the area to be cleaned thoroughly by your veterinarian and might also need antibiotics. Do you have another cat that might have unwillingly caused this ? Poor Indigo! While it is hard to tell for certain from a photo, this does look like it could be a deep enough cut to use sutures. I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian as soon as you can, preferably when your vet opens next if they are not open now. In the meantime, if she will allow you to clean it with mild soapy water you can do this, and apply a thick layer of an antibiotic ointment or a lubricant like ky jelly or vaseline to keep the wound moist/from drying out. If you have an e-collar to put on her this can be helpful if she is licking the area. If she seems very painful then you can take her to an emergency vet to have it looked at. That dark discoloration implies that top skin no longer has blood supply and it is not healthy tissue. This is likely an abscess from an injury or previous bite wound. Typically they can heal on their own, but the bacteria get trapped and cause this. She will need to see a vet for further treatment as that spot may have to be surgically removed and the area cleaned and flushed out. Antibiotics need to be given to maintain control of the infection so it can heal. These areas are very painful so any touching or straining is not recommend.

It sounds like Kitu may have a bite wouldn’t abscess. These usually need to be drained and given antibiotics to resolve. In the meantime you may consider applying a warm water and Epsom salt compress to the site. This may help with discomfort and also may encourage drainage. This looks like is may be a bite wound abscess that ruptured. Ideally, it should be addressed by your veterinarian. Surgery may be indicated to clean and flush the wound. Antibiotics and pain medication may also be indicated. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor. You may need to confine him indoors until he is healed.

I am so sorry for your cats injuries. Please take her to your vet to have these injuries cared for properly. These are too extensive for at home treatment. Until you can get her in to your vet for much needed wound management and antibiotics; it is best to clean this with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antiseptically clean the area. You can also try shaving the hair around the wounds to help remove dirt from the area, but only do so if your pet tolerates it. If not, then its best to just let your vet do it, as this is a crucial step in allowing these areas to heal well. I do hope that you are able to seek medical care for Kiara soon!
