Should I get cooling mats for my indoor cats who like cool spots?

I'm glad you are concerned. When cats are relaxed they tolerate the heat well. Using a small quiet fan to circulate the air and a cooling mat would be helpful. Most cats become very inactive during hard summer, it's absolutely normal, as long as he has a cool surface to lay on and plenty of shade he should be fine. if you have a fan at home it can help but not all cats tolerate fans.

You can try keeping them indoors with a fan or increasing the shade they have. Sometimes doing slightly cool water by placing a few ice cubes in their dish is helpful as well. If they start having any sort of nasal discharge, become week are they have pale or discolored gums they need to be seen by veterinarian immediately.

If you are able to sit in your apartment without distress, then your kitties if they are in good health should be able to tolerate it, but I would provide plenty of cool water and fans to help cool them, and if they show signs of distress such as excessive panting or lethargy/decreased appetite consider bringing them to a friend's house or boarding them somewhere with air conditioning. If they have any underlying health problems it may be more dangerous for them/possible for them to become overheated.

If they are suffering from a heat stroke they would be showing signs of true distress like heavy or open mouth breathing, lethargy, vomiting, etc). If he is showing any of these signs then he needs immediate care of a veterinarian. You can put some water on him and put a fan over him but be careful because they can eventually get too cold because they have a hard time regulating their own temperature when they have a heat stroke. If he isn't having the symptoms above and just wanting to cook him off on a warm day then yes you can use a little water to mist him and also make sure he has plenty of shade and water. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! Generally the electrical pads have a risk for short circuiting and can overheat with the animal on the pad leading to severe skin burns. There are newer options for keeping animals warm such as warmer crates / bedding, oscillating heat fans (dyson), and controlling the ambient room temperature. I have seen several burns related to electrical heat pads so I am not a big proponent of using these as the risk is too high for burns.

Actually, kittens want it warm, very warm. So I would not put them in a cooler room unless they start panting. As long as they have fresh water available. Most cats in temperate climates are feeling cold, which is why they try to spend time in the sun and near fire places. They will be ok in your air conditioned room, but they will seek your body heat, as they might feel cold.
