Are electric heating mats safe for cats? What's the burn risk?

I would be cautious with letting Snow lay directly in front of the gas heater as this could lead to serious burns or his fur catching fire if he sleeps too close to the heater. I would make sure that he at least 5 feet from the heater and make sure he cannot get any closer. I have had several patients (dogs and cats) come in with burns from gas heaters. I hope this helps! There is no need for a heating pad. Mama does a great job keeping the temperature just perfect for the babies. There is a danger that if you use a heating pad under the puppies the temperature may be too high and hurt the puppies.

Under a surface heat pads are good for helping them thermoregulate. There is only a risk of being burnt if directly exposed to the heat source (i.e. hot rocks). It's important that the heat pad is only under a portion of the enclosure not to exceed 50% of the surface. You always want a cool side of the enclosure and a warm side, so Loki go where is best for him. Make sure the heat pad is not too hot (if it's too hot for your skin, then it's too hot for him). I've found they do well when the heat pad is on a medium, or mild setting depending on the ambient temperature and eclosure. It may take a little experimenting to see what temperature seems best for him. I hope that helps and all is well with Loki.

Thank you for using pet coach. I would not be concerned about using a small amount in a small humidifier being toxic to Junior. However I would not recommend applying it to his skin or even applying it to your skin if he is going to be licking that area. I would limit the use of the humidifier to be on the safe side. Indoor cats rarely get overheated unless very active or stressed. They may enjoy a cooling mat though and it would be more comfortable than laying on the tiles. You cold also get a small quiet fan to circulate the air. Make sure it has a cover or is up so they can't get their paws inside. I think heating blankets would be a good idea for your dogs. Maybe you could save up to afford a heating box in the future for them. I'd get a couple of heating blankets for the dogs. Put a layer of regular blankets on the bottom of the igloo, then the heating blankets, and a final layer of regular blankets on top. This will warm the upper blankets, but keep them from potentially getting burned if the blankets are hot. I hope this helps!
