My cat looks like a Pixie-bob. How can I tell what breed he is?

There is likely another explanation to your kitties short tail, such as birth defect or previous injury and subsequent docking of the tail.

Cute cat! It would be hard to tell just by looks what breed she is, however I see some possible oriental background with the longer face, perhaps mixed with a domestic shorthair. The best way to find out breed is through a genetic breed test, which usually only requires a cheek swab that is then sent to a lab. It might be worth doing if you're curious about her breed!

WIthout a picture it is hard to say, but it sounds like it could be an American Shorthair. Cat breeds are much more difficult to decipher than dog breeds unless they are very obvious, such as a Sphynx or Siamese. If you are really curious and want to know for sure, there are companies that provide DNA testing. This will give you more information on your cat's lineage.

I don't think we can verify the genetics of any cat without a genetic test, but this kitten it is tough to tell from the photos if he has the appearance of a persian cat, which normally have a flattened appearance to the face. But we cannot see a side-view here, so it is tough to say. If his face is flattened, the appearance is mild (but there can be variations within the breed). Tigger is a very handsome boy! Based on his appearance and his weight of 9 pounds, I would say that he is not a purebred Maine Coon. Maine Coons are quite large cats and have a shaggy coat. Tigger looks like he has a short coat, which is not characteristic of a Maine Coon. Based on the pictures you have provided, he looks like a domestic shorthair to me. If you don't have papers on these kittens, they are almost certainly "Domestic Shorthairs" and "Domestic Medium hairs" (that third picture looks like a medium hair). This is the most common breed in the U.S., and the vast majority of cats here are this breed. Hope this helps.
