Is Hartz UltraGuard flea medicine safe for my cats and kittens?

I would not use it on my own cats. It is a harsh product on cats and I have seen a few clients have an intense reaction to it involving seizures and muscle spasms. I would instead use something like the Seresto collar. Best wishes.

No this is absolutely not recommended, first of all you can overdose her, secondly i generally do not recommend flea baths for cats, they are less effective and tend to cause severe side effects. I would caution against using Hartz to treat ear mites. That's because it's an OTC medication, and it will not be as effective as medication you can get from the vet. I would recommend getting Revolution. It's a spot on flea treatment that also kill ear mites. You don't put it into their ears, but apply it on the back of the head where they can't lick it. I recommend using that on Benji.

Hartz has been around for a very long time and it not likely as effective anymore as some of the other brands out there. You can try giving Capstar which is kills adult fleas within 30 mins and lasts for 24 hours and then following up with once monthly Advantage II for cats (over the counter) or once monthly Revolution which is a prescription flea preventative. Keeping Jackie on year round flea preventative is recommended even for indoor cats. I hope this helps and thanks again for your post!

Most over-the-counter options are not very effective in my experience, including Advantage - although it's probably the best of the currently available OTC options! Flea collars do not work well, and can often be toxic to cats. Instead, I would recommend getting a prescription flea medication like Revolution or Bravecto from your veterinarian. This will be safe for your kitty, and much more effective. If it's been at least 1-2 weeks since you applied the Advantage, it should be safe to go ahead and use a new medication from your vet.
