Why is my feral cat still scratching after Comfortis flea treatment?

Comfortis is a great product and should start killing fleas within 30 minutes. If you are still seeing fleas there are a few things to consider. First, make sure you give the Comfortis on a full stomach and make sure the dog keeps it down (sometimes dogs vomit after taking it). There are also probably fleas in the environment/home. I would recommend vacuuming all carpeted areas in your house and washing all of the pet's bedding. Even with the best flea control it can take up to 2-3 months to get the flea problem under control. Make sure you treat all the other pets in the household as well

Hello, if the product you are using is not working, you might want to try Advantage Multi, but I would think between the drops you are using & the bathing, the fleas should be gone. You might also try completely changing out your enclosure, using a completely different substrate, just in case Mike is sensitive to what you are using now. If they were scratching due to fleas then it is not unusual they are still itching. The bites from the fleas will not go away overnight (imagine if you had mosquito bites, these persist for quite a time after the bite occurs) and often the die off of fleas will cause increased itching for a day or two. If the itching is severe your vet may prescribe medication to help, or if they are still itching excessively in a few days, seek veterinary care.

George's itching can be caused by a reaction to the fleas, a secondary skin infection, ringworm, or other skin parasites such as mites. George may need antibiotics, medicated shampoo or ointments to resolve the issue completely. He may be allergic to fleas or the product itself. I would recommend an immediate check up to determine that and have a prescription product against fleas prescribed. Comfortis could be a valid option.

What a handsome boy! There's a few things you may try. To absolutely make sure fleas are not the cause (remember, if you have a pet who is sensitive, tit only takes 1 flea to cause a reaction), talk with your veterinarian about using an oral flea prevention called Comfortis. Try this for 2-3 months and see if it helps. Kahlua looks a little heavy, sometimes this can prevent them from being able to clean the lower back/around the tail. Weight loss will allow him to adequately clean that area and in the mean time, shampooing the area every 4-5 days or using a dry shampoo and a brush every 3-4 days will help to decrease the oil production and decrease itchiness. Continue using a fish oil though I prefer an omega 3 fatty acids supplement. Changing the food to Royal Canin may also help improve the skin quality. Allergies can also cause itchiness but I recommend to rule out the fleas first. I hope this helps.

Hi ! Can you still spot presence of fleas ? You should look for flea dirt more than adult fleas, tiny black dots that dissolve when put in contact with water on a white tissue . You can use a flea comb for this purpose and then wipe it on the wet tissue to see if there is any evidence of flea dirt. If you have established that there still are fleas, then it could be that when you applied the product it did not actually reach the skin surface. I would recommend to speak to your veterinarian with regards to an additional product to kill flea eggs and arrange an appointment perhaps with a technician to show you how to best administer this treatment, good luck and I hope everything goes well !
