How to get my cat to use her new bed instead of sleeping on mine?

Your kitties are so cute! Yes it's possible to get Kiki to sleep on your bed, but given she is a young kitten, she may be more interested in playing at night than sleeping. When you go to bed, you can try bringing her in with you and your other cat, and give her treats when she lays down on your bed. That way, she associates your bed with a good thing, and may be more likely to lie down there. Keep in mind that cats and kittens can be finicky about where they sleep, and she may sleep there for a while, then move to a new favorite spot. This is completely normal. As she grows older, she may chose to want to sleep on your bed more, but for now, giving her treats when she is on it will provide a good association with being there and make it more likely she will want to lie on the bed. If there is a radiator or heat vent below the kitchen window, then I would place it there. To the right of the sink would be great, too. Kitties like the heat. My second choice would be the bed room, however she may prefer to lie on the bed anyway and ignore the cat bed there.

Unfortunately, when a momma cat feels someplace is safe, she'll be pretty adamant about bringing her kittens there! Apparently, the bed, and you are her safe spot. You may try making a "nest" for her out of pillows or a blanket from your bed and placing it next to the bed so it smells safe like you, but you can't crush it. You can also try making a pillow "wall" to keep yourself separated from the babies as well if you roll over in the night. Otherwise, just trying to make someplace else more enticing should encourage her to move them again.

Unfortunately there is not a lot you can do to discourage this bevahiour. Anything that you do to try and make it an unfriendly sleep environment would also make the litter box feel unsafe to do her business in. I would recommend making sure your kitty has a couple of nice comfy spots where she CAN sleep peacefully, and encourage her to use those areas rather than the litter box. You can gently pick her up from the litter box and place her in an alternate location, using products like catnip and Feliway in the alternate areas can help too.

Hello. This is literally an age old question & basically it all goes back to this: no one knows what goes on in a cats head. I am not just being facetious, but even my cats drive me crazy sometimes. Food, toys, beds, cat condos all go through love/hate phases all the time. I think it is so wonderful that you adopted him, & as long as he loves being with you, the warming bed may just be too foreign to him. There may also be a very low quality hum or vibration that goes along with the heating elements that just puts him off. Hi, one of the reasons why she might not like her cat tree could be where it’s placed. It needs to be in an area where there is not much movement and not close to entry/exit points. You could add and extra hiding spot on the top with soft bedding and see if that tempts her to go there. Hope this helps !

I recommend that you try a product called Feliway which can help cats deal with any stress inducing situations like the one you describe. You can buy this as a spray for example at your local pet store or online. If she does not improve, the other thing that should be considered is if there is a medical reason for all of this which is certainly possible. If her behavior does not improve, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. She is adorable! Good luck!
