My feral cat has mange. Can I give them medicine in their food?

I would think the scabs are most likely due to itching secondary to fleas. I would recommend applying a flea prevention every 30 days to all stay cats if you can. If you really cannot catch them I would try to spray the environment with pet friendly flea killer. It can be very hard to manage fleas in outdoor animals

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, there is nothing orally for cats that works to my knowledge. All the options for cats that I am aware of are topical. If you do decide to try a topical product PLEASE read the labels carefully as there are a few that are sold for dogs that are FATAL to cats. I like Advantage II from Bayer. It is over the counter, very effective, and lasts about 4 weeks - long enough to break the life cycle. Unfortunately, all the cats would need to be treated at the same time to prevent re-infestation. I'm not sure what you are alluding to. Are you worried the cat may be contagious to you? Are you worried about the mites getting in your car? It is possible for humans to catch the mites depending on what type of mange the cat has. That being said, if the mites get on your skin it usually only causes a mild rash and resolves on it's own unless you are immunocompromised (that would be a different story). I suggest you either trap the cat in a humane trap or if the cat will allow you to pick it up then put it in a regular carrier. Cover the trap/carrier with a large bed sheet and put it in your car and take it to the vet. The mites don't live long when they are not on the host so you don't have to worry about the environment or the car. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

It is not recommend you use ivermectin yourself without the guidance of a vet - it is too easy to overdose. All you need to do is apply a product called Revolution (sealamectin - a derivative of ivermectin). It is a topical spot-on treatment you would use once every few weeks until the skin is cleared. You should be able to get this from the vet. Lime sulphur dip is fine to use but since cats don't tolerate bathing that well it will probably be a fight.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea your cats regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

The first thing I would do is treat her with Advantage or another flea prevention product until you can get her in for an exam. Fleas can cause some of these lesions and she most likely has ear mites also. If you are able to take her in they can examine her ears and skin and give her medication to stop the scratching and antibiotics or an antibiotic injection to treat the skin infection. If she is a stray I recommend a blood test first for feline leukemia and FIV as these are serious cat diseases that there is no cure for and are infectious to other cats. If she is negative for those getting her skin treated and getting her neutered are important for her health. I'm glad you are taking care of Baby as she certainly needs veterinary care. Unfortunately no, there are no OTC medications you can use to treat Magick's ringworm. She needs an oral anti fungal medication because Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, and the whole body needs to be treated. The oral anti fungal medications are prescription only, so you have to make an appointment with the vet. You will also need to disinfect the home, as ringworm spores can live up to 18 months in the environment. I will put a link below on how to do this.
