My feral cat has a growing lump. What can I do if I can't afford a vet?

It may be an infection or some fluid build-up under the skin. If you are still considering giving her away, then it's probably best to give her to a good shelter. Places like the Humane Slociety have good facilities for cats and have veterinarians on staff. The vet will be able to quickly identify the cause of the lump and treat it before adopting her out. I'm sorry to hear about poor Izzy and your current dilemma. Unfortunately, it's not possible to know what the bump is without examining it and doing some testing. There are some clinics that can at-least do an exam for $30, but likely nothing more than this. For inexpensive veterinary care options, the best place to call is your local humane society. They should know the most affordable place to take Izzy. You may tell your dad that taking care of the lumps earlier, before they cause serious problems, is much cheaper than taking care of them later. You should also let him know that providing veterinary care for your pet is considered one of the five freedoms that any domestic animals should have. By not providing veterinary care for Izzy, an animal control officer can find him negligent and fine him. It could be a small cyst (non cancerous growth) from epidermal origin, or potentially a small abscess that has not yet reached the point of rupture from a sting or bite. If it is possible I would suggest clipping the hair short to get a better look. If you can get a picture, this would help us to better help you out. Likely Freya will need to see a vet for either a drainage of this or a removal if the mass becomes bothersome. Antibiotics will be warranted if the mass ends up being an abscess that is currently brewing under the skin. I hope this helps! Please resubmit if you can get some photos! Poor Vutu! Unfortunately I would be concerned it could be a malignant tumor. I would take her into the closest vet to you to have this examined, diagnosed, and treated. If it's not treated and it is malignant, the cancer will spread and kill her. If you get it removed, there may be a chance any cancer could be fully cured. Best of luck.

Hello. It is very unlikely that this is cancerous, but what it actually requires is a hands-on examination. My first inclination is the presence of a single fly larva under each swelling. Warble flystrike is a common problem in young cats during the summer. This may also just be what you described, some type of benign cyst, but It is unusual enough that I really recommend letting your vet take a look at this.
