Is Farmina N&D dry cat food healthier than Proplan for my cat?

Obviously they are made by the same company (Purina), but Purina ProPlan is the high quality food. It has more nutrients and contains more real meats that Purina One. Purina is a good brand of food, so it's fine to feed either, but give Mac the ProPlan if you want a higher quality food and more real meat in the food. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Foods made by Purina are good, but ones like ProPlan have higher quality ingredients than say Alpo or Beneful. In my opinion, Purina is the best of the supermarket brands, so getting a food made by Purina whether it be Purina One or Beneful is fine. I hope this helps!

There really isn't controversy about Purina's ingredients. They are excellent. They have veterinary nutritionists on staff to make sure the food is good. Canada and Wellness do not have veterinary nutritionists on their staff. I would go for Purina ProPlan, but Hill's is equally as good (they also have veterinary nutritionists on staff). Both dry and wet diets are equally good in general especially for younger cats. I prefer wet food in older cats when I am concerned about kidney disease just to increase the water content in the diet. Good luck and have a great day!

Yes, it is absolutely fine to feed your cats a mix of two foods! Purina ProPlan is a high quality diet and wheat gluten is not a cause for concern. If you decide to mix the two foods together, try to be consistent by always mixing them rather than switching back and forth. Sudden diet changes back and forth can cause vomiting and diarrhea in some cats.

As a general rule of thumb, I find Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin foods to be of a high quality. These companies thoroughly analyze their foods, run controlled clinical feeding studies and carefully source their ingredients. While there are plenty of other good food brands available, I find these three to be quite consistent. As a male cat, I typically recommend feeding a mix of both wet and dry foods. Neutered male cats have a risk of developing urethral obstructions, and increased water content in the wet food can help to slightly decrease this risk. Anytime you make a change in diet, be sure to do so gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over 5-7 days.
