What to do if my dog or cat has blood coming from their anus?

It is difficult to say without being able to examine your kitty. This may be blood from an anal gland infection, but could also be from an injury or bloody diarrhea. You should take her to a veterinary doctor as she will need antibiotics to prevent infection.

Poor Greg! It sounds like he has had a lot of testing and treatments with no response. You may want to ask about referral to an internal medicine specialist as the next step. Some other tests to consider might be a fecal PCR or culture, or tests for fungal disease depending on your area. Poor cat. Bleeding from the rectum can be caused by a coagulation disorder, immune mediated disorder (IMHA), rectal prolapse or severe colitis. It could be that Booty had impacted anal sacs, and they have now ruptured. That would cause her to bleed from her anus, and drag her bottom on the ground. It could also be that he suffered trauma to his anus, like from a foreign body, or he could be suffering from intestinal worms. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can determine what is causing his anus to bleed, and can treat it from there.
