Can my diabetic cat occasionally eat my other cat's urinary diet?

The best food for a cat with diabetes and urinary issues will always be a canned food diet. For diabetics, we try to keep their carbohydrates low. This is only possible with a canned food. I am attaching a link below to a list of canned foods which lists the carbohydrates (which are often not on the label). It is very important for diabetics to eat a consistent diet each day in order to match insulin prescription to energy intake and demand. You should discuss your concerns with your vet as a new diet may require adjustment of her insulin requirement but if they will not eat the diabetic food then an acceptable, tasty alternative (preferably high protein and low carbohydrate) should be found as soon as possible!

Hill's (Science Diet) makes a prescription urinary s/d diet and a c/d diet. If it is SO, then it must a diet made by Royal Canin. Royal Canin S/O diet is OK to feed to all the cats as is Hill's c/d multicare diet. The s/d diet is probably OK if it is only going to be a short term diet.

If she's not in failure, it would give a good baseline for future blood testing. It will not hurt both cats to be on the special diet. As with all treats, moderation is the best approach. You can give Ashton cat treats here and there and they will not mess up his diet, if you feed one or two a day. However, instead of food treats, treat him with cat nip sprinkled on a towel....he will love this even more. Prescription urinary health food usually has to come from the vet.

Smokey is adorable! I love black cats. Any treat that is given occasionally is okay. The main thing is to to ensure that Smokey gets lots of clean fresh water all the time and make sure he's drinking. Feeding canned food is a way to ensure he's getting more water but I know some cats prefer dry to canned and can't be convinced otherwise.
