Is deworming safe for my 19-year-old cat who just gained weight?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 19 years and 4 months old | 2.2 lbs

I have a 19 year old cat. He is quite thin but since we started canned food he has gained weight and is now back up over 2 pounds. My question is, it is this time in the year we do our worming of our cats and dogs. Is it safe to worm him? He is also playing more as in the photos

If you are concerned about the dewormer, submit a stool sample to your veterinarian first. If it is negative, Peabody may not need deworming. In general, dewormers are safe even in geriatrics patients.
